I have spent several hours trying to get my new laptop talking to my Canon EOS 60D, to use remote shooting and image transfer wia the EOS Utility.
A lot of threads on various forums suggests several fixes, but none of them applied to my problem.
In my case, the issue was related to my "Enterprise N" version of Windows 7. This version does not include a PTP driver, which has to be installed separately. Canon does not mention this on their support site, instead claiming that the driver is bundled with Windows 7.
To fix this, I had to install "Windows Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N and for Windows 7 KN".
That solved my problem.
